Perhaps it's no coincidence that denim designers obsessed with ass-shaping should, occasionally, spare a thought for ass-shaking, too. For Lips Jeans founders Loren Cronk and Daniel Donahue, ass-shaking is most definitely the point of their Polite Society night at the Williamsburg bar K&M. Launched in late January and continuing every Thursday for the foreseeable future, the party sees the duo take to the decks, the better to get people to show off their denim on the dance floor. "Actually, Loren's out in L.A. for a while," admitted Donahue at last night's edition of the Polite Society. But that's OK, because Donahue has indie cred for two: A founding member of Great Lakes (a.k.a., the band that played the Loden Dager show last season), Donahue got his professional start working with Lance Bangs on videos and film projections for bands such as Pavement, R.E.M., and Belle and Sebastian. more...

Fashion Cafe, that ill-executed, Hard Rock Cafe-esque eatery in Rockefeller Center where you could look at sequined corsets while chowing on cheeseburgers, didn't last long. (Namely because it wasn't easy gnawing on chicken fingers while staring at photos of models.) In any case, bona fide fashion people seem to gravitate to a predestined set of eateries, especially during the season. That was abundantly clear today at Café Flore in Saint-Germain. Listed in no particular order and eating in different parts of the restaurant were photographers Mario Sorrenti and David Sims; Olivier Zahm and a similarly disheveled lady friend; the New York Times' Stefano Tonchi, Alix Browne, and Karla Martinez; Jessica Stam and a bevy of other models; and the stressed-out assistant posses of both Balenciaga and Alexander McQueen. Talk about working lunches. "They should just have the castings here right now," one person quipped, adding—after another diner pointed to an overeager, posing new face—"I think some people think this is one."
